Steals and Deals: Summer ’09 Best Buys

Here are my latest picks for all you fashion starved bargain hunters.

H&M: I recently made a pit stop to check out H&M’s latest outpost on 86th street. While I had to troll through the crowds on opening day I did manage to zero in on a terrific buy, a chic organic cotton pencil skirt. It ‘s a crisp white (gold) button front number nicely detailed with button accented faux flap pockets. Think Michael Kors/Ralph Lauren upper crust style for a measly $29.90

Marc Jacobs: This fun item is probably the (only) inexpensive thing you’ll ever find by this hot designer. It’s a tongue-in-chic ballpoint pen disguised as a lipstick. Lift off the red lipped top and find the cutest little pen. At first glance I mistook it for the real thing. At $3.00 you can afford to buy it in multiples since it makes a whimsical gift. I got mine at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute Model as Muse exhibit but you can also pick it up at Marc’s downtown boutique.

This Year's Hottest Stick

Elliott Lucca: Thinking ahead to early fall and beyond, I’d recommend checking out this well known handbag resource’s collection. The quality’s top rate and the styling’s right on target. If you’re only going to invest in one bag this season buy the “Zafra” double handled hobo. It comes in butter soft smooth and woven leather, in a size to hold all of your gear. I love the Portobello (mushroom color) best but you can also opt for cognac, metallic pyrite, or black leather and patent. Find it now at Lord & Taylor. The $298.00 price tag may seem like a lot but compared to some of the other over priced designer junk out there, it’s a steal.

Uniqlo: This is another one of my fave boutiques. As far as I know the only outlet is in SoHo so far but when you’re trolling the neighborhood it’s always worth a look-see for affordable not-so basic separates. And they offer FREE alterations on lady’s pants. Since I don’t possess the longest legs in the world this is definitely a plus. I digress, so back to the deal! When I attended their fall editor’s press event there were lots of terrific pieces for both guys and gals that will retail for under $100 bucks. For my money I recommend the double knit pea jacket in gray (my choice), or black, the velvet jeans in gorgeous colors - I want them all – and the snappy cropped, belted navy trench coat. All of the above will be in store around Septemberso keep a look out. The quality’s top notch and no one will ever guess the price.

C&C has spoken! Go and do your part!
